Digital cards – out of my box

Studio Calico had some AMAZING after-Thanksgiving day sales – which I seriously couldn’t resist. On Saturday, they offered several of their past on-line classes at a discount. Since I was in the process of making a giant stack of cards for Christmas presents, I enrolled in the You’ve Got Mail class. I knew I wouldn’t get the class stamp set, but they had the images available as digital elements.

I thought I would push myself and create the cards using the digital elements. It was a huge stretch for me, but I’m really pleased with how they turned out.

For the “Thank you” card, I loved the bold black banner printable from the class. I printed that off and cut it out (shouldda thought to use my Calico – maybe next time!) and I paired it with some hand-drawn elements. I used my Sharpie Writer (have you TRIED these pens??? Seriously. Run to the store. Run. Now. They are the bomb!) and my PrismaColor watercolor pencils to add some color. Using my water brush, I smoothed out the colors. I really love the balance with the printable and the doodle elements.

For the “You’ve Got Mail” card – I created background paper using the adorable envelope stamp. I printed it on presentation paper in black and white. I added color with a paintbrush and my Neocolor crayons (I just love the intense pop of color these little guys pack). The sentiment and the speech bubble are also printables available in the class. I just added some doodling a bit of stickles to the heart. This was my first attempt at making my own background paper with a digital element – and am really happy with it – especially once I added color

All in all – I really had fun trying my hand at the digital elements…and think I may see a whole bunch of possibilities for projects in the future.

Thanks for stopping by!
