Sweet layout + blog swap

Hello friends! I am so excited to share a layout today using the same materials that the very talented Michelle Bazeley also used to make a project. Here’s what we did: we each put together a kit of goodies to share with each other and then we each made a project using the same supplies. We’ll share one kit/project today and one next month.

Here’s what I did with my mini kit:

sweet1The products are a mix of papers from Close to My Heart, stamps from them as well as one from an Ali Edwards story stamp, embellishments from Studio Calico and of course, my Sharpie writer.

I hand drew and cut the title, outlining it with my sharpie. I also made some rosettes – something I haven’t done in a long while… and tucked some sequins and enamel dots in to them.

Project life – a week of firsts

imageSo, I sat down to put together Week 17 – and realized I didn’t have a single photo. Not one! What could I have been doing all week that would have stopped me from snapping a few photos is beyond me. But there it was: an empty week.

i happen to be taking a fabulous class over at Studio Calico called Beyond Digital basics …. So I took the opportunity to create a layout using digital papers and okay with some of the techniques in class. It was a fun challenge for me.

I also used a letterpress card I made (from the first batch of letterpress I tried!) super fun plates came with my press – just my style. Added a bit of doodling and watercolor and journaling…love it!

I grabbed a few other photos of things I love and added some journal spots of current things I do, listen to, eat and places I go most frequently. Not the best project life layout I’ve ever done – but I’m actually happy with how it all came out, considering.

This 4×6 card came in a recent PL kit from studio calico. I added the white “always” I drew and cut out of the cameo with a little stitching. You can download that freebie here.imageThis little Happy Camper card I made with some StayzOn ink, my neocolors and a super cute stamp set from Close to My Heart.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Voodoo Love

I’m finally getting around to scrapping some of our trip to Portland last fall. We had such a great long weekend get-away. I’m taking the Color theory class over at SC and our first assignment was to find a color combination we liked and pull stuff from our stash. The second assignment (surprise!) was to create a layout with what we pulled.

Here’s the photo of my inspiration and the stuff I pulled from my stash:

waterman-colorchallenge1My goal with the layout was to try and repeat the two chevron patterns and add a bit of floral. We went to Voodoo Doughnuts on Saturday morning. Mike wanted to get the giant glazed – just for the photo op (gotta love a husband who think in photo opportunities!).

VOODOO LOVEI stamped some flowers using an old CTMH, hand cut some hearts and outlined them with my grey Sharpie.

vl-deet2I added some splashes of Mr. Huey’s. I dumped a little out on to my craft mat. With my waterbrush, I diluted the ink and splattered it across the layout. The muted effect is the exact color I was working toward for this color scheme. Had I used the ink at full-strength it would have been way to dark and intense.

vl-deet1I finished the layout with some journaling on a PL card, tags and sticker. I added some stitching and wood veneer to complete the look.

Hope you all have a delightful week!

PL – Week 6

I was so excited to sit down and work on this week’s layout. My order for Close to My Heart came in early this week and I was so inspired by the new Hopscotch Alphabet…LOVE it! I’ve linked to my dear friend Amy’s wesbite if you’re as crazy about the set as I am and want to get your hands on it…

So here’s what I did with it — I used both the upper and lower case with Stayz On ink so I could use my NeoColor crayons to add a little water color effect.

week6I adored this photo of Emily playing the guitar. She really wanted to take lessons so she could play at summer camp this year. We got the small size — and it still looks to big on her. I can’t help but wonder how she will grow and someday, maybe, this instrument will seem small. Time goes by so quickly…

So I decided to enlarge this photo and focus on why it pulled so much on my heartstrings: I love how big the guitar looks, how you can see her little toes (and she does have very little toes!), how she will sing as she plays – when she doesn’t think we can hear, and that tiny little smile on her face. I mostly just love her with all my heart…true statement.

week6-deet5 week6-deet6 week6-deet8 week6-deet3 week6-deet4On the right side, I just used one photo from each day of the rest of the week. While I absolutely LOVE the 9 square page protector — it’s hard to create those cards, right? All the cards in the kits I have – both from Becky Higgins and the monthly kit from Studio Calico (I used a few of the cards from Copper Mountain and Double Scoop) are either 4×6 or 3×4. So these awesome 4×4 squares take a bit more time to prepare. Which is OK — just a little different.

So, I created 3 using the hopscotch alpha again, the staz on, neocolors and a little bit of stitching. I like how using both the upper and lower cases on the left and the right sides make the whole layout cohesive. week6-deet2 week6-deet1I know this layout focuses quite a bit on what I love…and yet: it’s NOT the week of Valentine’s! Guess I’m going to have to come up with a different strategy for next week’s layout. 🙂 Hope you enjoyed this spread and get inspired to pull out some stamps, grab some paints and make some of insert cards of your own.

Have a happy week!

Week 4: PL 2014

week4Week 4 was pretty chilly here in the ‘Ville. Even so, I spent some time outside – but the snow wasn’t packing snow, so the only snowman we made was this one for the insert card:

week4-deet4I dug out a reaaallly old Close to My Heart stamp set to construct this cute little guy. I added a few stickles in light blue – (although in the photo it looks gold)…to finish it off. The background paper I made using white crayons as a mask and then watercolored some gelatos on top. While the background was still wet, I added some Mr. Hueys in hot pink.

Overall, I used craft paper and teal as my color scheme with some blue and pink as accents. I pulled in bits and pieces from my Studio Calico kits – Copper Mountain, Cuppa, Double Scoop and Neverland. Additionally, I used some of the bits from the project kit: Jubilee. The craft paper mostly comes from Amy Tangerine and Echo Park (I’ve had that cloud paper for a year…waiting for just the right layout!)

I’m pleased this week, with the Collect app photos – I added some printables, labels and tags to them (all from SC), and I think that really helped with the flatness I struggled with last week. I also really like mixing the prints with traditional photos I print with my Selphy. I plan to incorporate these prints moving forward. Besides, I just really love the app: it reminds me every day to take photos – how cool is that?

Have a super week! Stop back by later this week to catch up with me and my One Little Word journey. I’ve photographed my work so far, but need to get the blog post done. Enjoy!
